Heart + Hands Enrichment

Ages 6-12

Our afternoon enrichment classes are designed to to inspire within each child a deep reverence and love for creating as they learn new skills and grow in self-confidence. With a focus on whole-child development, these classes invite students into meaningful work that blends creativity, craftsmanship, and connection to the natural world.

Projects often center around handwork, woodworking, and other practical skills. Each project typically spans 3–4 weeks, giving children the time and space to fully engage with the process and develop a deeper understanding of the skill at hand.

Our offerings are often inspired by the interests and curiosities of our Wild Explorers students, though we warmly welcome suggestions from others. We’re also always looking for skilled craftspeople who have a special talent or tradition they’d like to share with our students. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

We prioritize the use of natural, high-quality materials such as wool, beeswax, and items found in nature. Depending on the season and the project, students may even forage for some of their own materials. All finished work is theirs to keep and treasure.

Starting this fall, we’ll offer Enrichment Skills classes on Monday afternoons at our Glendale location and Wednesday afternoons in Clarkson. Projects will vary based on location, the ages of enrolled students, and seasonal themes. Wild Explorers families receive $15 off each project (sibling discounts not included).

A Few Benefits of Handwork:

  • Grows fine motor skills, strengthens concentration and hand-eye-brain coordination- these are all necessary skills for handwriting, drawing, and other activities that require dexterity
  • Develops patience and persistence
  • The repetitive nature of handwork is calming to even the most active of brains
  • Encourages self-confidence and appreciation for the arts
  • Develops mathematical awareness through counting and problem solving
  • Promotes practical life skills- such as following directions, listening, solving problems, patience, and more!

Clarkson location, Ages 9+

Wednesdays 1-2pm CST

Dates: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1

Mr. Taylor will be guiding students through a more in-depth whittling project: carving wooden spoons by hand. This class is intended for children ages 9 and up who can use sharp tools safely and respectfully—some prior experience is strongly recommended. As an added precaution, students will tape their fingers during class. If they finish their first spoon, they will have the option to whittle a second spoon or start another whittling project.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at littlegardenplay@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You are welcome to drop-off your child or stay on site. We ask that all parents watch from a distance. Feel free to bring a book to read, go on a nature walk, or bring handwork of your own. WI-FI is also available.

We welcome all families to stay and play after class in our nature play area so long as our rules and materials are cared for.

Yes. They are welcome to play in our nature play area or quietly play indoors though they should not interfere or distract from the students art time. We ask that all attendees help maintain a calm and peaceful environment- one that allows the students to focus on their work (though there will never be a shortage of fun and laughter).

They take place from my home, which is located 12 mins outside of Leitchfield off of Grayson Springs Road. Our class is primarily indoors though we will sometimes go foraging for materials and when the weather and project allow for it we may move class outside.

They should bring a water bottle and be well-rested and ready to create!

If you will be missing a class due to illness or any other reason you must notify me via email or text with as much notice as you can give. This helps tremendously as I spend a good amount of time preparing/setting up materials. Ideally notice would be given with at least 24 hours though I understand things happen.

If your child is sick please keep them home. A child may not attend if they have or have had a fever in the last 24 hours or have any symptom of illness that may spread to others.

No refund will be given for missed classes. I will do my best to send home the project from that day the next week but this is not always an option.

If the teacher needs to cancel class due to personal illness or a personal emergency a refund or class credit will be offered.

Class will be canceled in cases where severe weather makes travel unsafe. Parents will be notified via text/email. We will do our best to reschedule if possible. No refund will be given for classes canceled due to severe weather.
