Stay + Play

Ages 18months- 5 years

Stay + Play is a play-based, nature class for toddlers and preschoolers. Our time is filled with fun as we sing, move, play, and explore! A parent or caregiver stays to support and encourage their child in this two hour, once-a-week class.

Class Rhythm

  • Good Morning Circle: seasonal songs and finger plays
  • Nature Walk: we explore all the season has to offer and visit the farm animals
  • Self-Directed Play: children decide what they would like to do whether it be play in the mud kitchen, sandbox, climb, build, or explore. Children rest for a snack at their own leisure.
  • Craft and/or Sensory Activity: a time to create and be messy
  • Seasonal Story and Goodbye Circle: we close  our time with a special little story and song

What can you expect your child to learn?

  • Gross motor skills and coordination through balance, climbing, walking through the forest, etc.
  • Fine motor skills through nature collecting, sensory activities, and crafts
  • Socio-emotional skills as children learn to work and play together in our mixed age environment

Please note our classes take place outside rain or shine unless weather is severe. Check out our info sheet  for what to bring to be prepared for all weather.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at littlegardenplay@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Anyone who has a relationship with your child whether it be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, nanny, or family friend is welcome to bring your child. They must be okay being in the elements for two hours, must follow our guidance principles, and be able to support your child in all areas such as crafts, nature walk, diaper/potty breaks, etc.

Siblings (especially younger babies) are welcome. Older children can play independently, separate from the class, or bring school work. There will not be extra supplies available for children not enrolled.

We believe that a mixed age group class is beneficial for both the older and younger children in the class. The younger children learn from the older children and the older children are able to lead and support the younger children. Our child-led, play focused class model supports all ages as children are free to play however they'd like. We also have craft options that fit the age range and attention span differences.

Diapers and potty breaks are the responsibility of the parent or caretaker. We have an outhouse available for all potty needs.

They take place from Little Garden School, which is located 12 mins outside of Leitchfield off of Grayson Springs Road.

    100 Wilderness Dr.

    Clarkson KY, 42726

As of right now the closest thing to a trial class is our free playgroup that meets once a month. Though it is less formal than our class it will give you an idea if this class will be a good fit for your child. Find our playgroup events posted on Facebook

Please keep them home. A child may not attend if they have or have had a fever in the last 24 hours or have any symptom of illness that may spread to others.

No refund will be given for missed classes and only if there is space in another class may the class be made up.

If the teacher needs to cancel class more than once due to personal illness or a personal emergency we will do our best to reschedule or class credit will be offered.

We meet rain or shine. Classes are canceled in cases of severe weather. Severe is defined as thunderstorms, dangerously high winds, torrential downpour, ice storms, temperatures below 28F degrees, or an excessive heat index.

Parents will be notified via text/email. We will do our best to reschedule if possible. No refund for classes missed due to severe weather.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is the work of childhood."
